Success Story: Lanie

FUND IT FORWARD received this letter from her parents:

Lanie is currently 7 years old. She has faced many obstacles in her life. As an infant, she was born with Hypotonia, a condition which causes low muscle tone. In addition, she suffered from GERDS. As a result, she underwent surgery (Fundoplication) to reduce her reflux. She also received a feeding tube (mickey button) due to her low weight and feeding difficulties. Lanie was also diagnosed with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and Contractures of the knees. She is nonverbal and is unable to walk independently. However, she gets around very well by crawling and walking on her knees. She currently attends a school that offers specialized instruction to meet her unique needs. She also receives therapies (physical therapy, speech therapy, occupation therapy, aquatic therapy on a regular basis. The safety bed would allow a better quality of life for Lanie. It is low to the ground so she will be able to get into the bed by herself. Furthermore, Lanie lacks safety awareness and does wander. The safety bed will prevent her from wandering during the night. Despite her challenges, Lanie always has a smile on her face. She has the best giggle in the world! She has a deep love for music!
